Lasithi is the easternmost regional unit on the island of Crete, to the east of Heraklion. Its capital is Agios Nikolaos and the other major towns are Ierapetra, Sitia and Neapoli. The mountains include the Dikti in the west and the Thrypti in the east. The Sea of Crete lies to the north and the Libyan Sea to the south.
Thanks to stunning beaches and its mild climate all yearlong, Lasithi attracts many tourists. Lasithi is also a home to a number of ancient remains, and its history can be traced over at least three millennia. The region has considerable ancient history antecedents, including the Dorian era settlement of Olous and Lato.
Lasithi has some popular places like Elounda, Sissi, Sitia and Ierapetra. The best beach of Lassithi Greece is Vai, an amazing place with impressive palm forest and crystal water, as most of the the other beaches around, creating an amazing relaxing atmosphere.
The traditional villages in the Plateau of Lassithi are popular as well, for keeping all the local customs and a calm pace of life. A drive around will bring you to ancient sites and Medieval Castles, such as the Minoan palace of Zakros and the famous island of Spinalonga.

The capital of Lasithi county, Agios Nikolaos, is a medium-size town with a small-town feel, offering unforgettable experiences. Agios Nikolaos is the administrative, communications, cultural and commercial center of the Prefecture, with approximately 8500 inhabitants.
The climate in the area is mild with extremely low humidity, being an ideal place to relax and travel.The sea in Agios Nikolaos is superb and the surrounding area of the city is noted for its sandy beaches and beautiful bays like Kitroplateia, Ammos beach and Ammoudi, which are close to the city center.
The landmark of the city is definitely the small lake, known as “Voulismeni”, located in the center of the city, at the bottom of the cliffs, a folklore-inspiringly deep body of water, which is connected to the sea by a narrow inlet. It is surrounded and overlooked by cafes and restaurants – a busy gathering place for local residents and visitors alike.

Every summer Agios Nikolaos organizes cultural events, music and dance events, theatrical performances, exhibitions, shows.
