
The enormous Herakleion Archaeological Museum it’s located in the central Eleftherias Square and collects together many of the finds from Knossos, Archanes, Phaestos, Zakros and many other archeological sites in Crete.
It is one of the largest and most important museums in Greece. The museum houses representative artefacts from all the periods of Cretan prehistory and history, covering a chronological span of over 5,500 years from the Neolithic period to Roman times.
The museum contains important Minoan collection contains unique examples of Minoan art, many of them are true masterpieces. The Herakleion Museum is rightly considered as the museum of Minoan culture par excellence worldwide, because it contains the most notable and complete collection of artifacts of the Minoan civilization of Crete.
